Points To Ponder
The ride from the Midlands to the famous Super Sausage Cafe or Silverstone Circuit typically involves the M1. It is a boring but necessary evil.
However, there is another way, which is through the back roads, starting in Melton Mowbray.
The route includes a section of the B6047, known locally as the big dipper. It is an invigorating great section of road on either side of the A47 and a road you should ride at least once.
On any sunny Sunday, the Super Sausage Café will be rammed with motorcycles and often hosts some interesting events.
This route also makes a great way to avoid a lot of the traffic when going to Silverstone. As the route crosses the A43, turn west, and Silverstone is a few miles along the dual carriageway.
The section of the A6 leading into Towcester can be tempting, but it is popular with the local constabulary, especially after a race meeting.
